White Hat SEO


The term White Hat SEO, is the term given to good SEO techniques which are used to obtain a higher search engine ranking. These techniques are regarded as being both ethical and legal. White Hat SEO methods generally include the following:

1. Google loves content, therefore writing informative and unique content for your website is as a good idea and also keeps the viewer interested. Whenever possible try to update your content on a regular basis.

5. It is very important to make sure that your website is coded to be search engine crawler friendly. Cleaner code returns better results!

4. Submit your website URL to the major search engines, such as Google, Yahoo etc

Link popularity plays a big part in the search optimisation process and determines where your website ranks in the search returns for your targeted keyword phrases, therefore getting a good link exchange network established is paramount. However, with that being said, do your homework and don’t link to crappy sites just for sake of increasing your link network as this can cause adverse affects. Instead try linking to websites in the same or similar industry and equal to or higher page rank.


Black Hat SEO


The term Black Hat SEO, is the term given to bad SEO techniques which are used to obtain a higher search engine ranking. These techniques are regarded as being both illegal and unethical. Black Hat SEO methods should be discouraged. Methods generally include the following:

1. In order to achieve a higher search engine ranking or position, some developers resort to what is called ‘Keyword Stuffing’. This involves cramming a long list of words into the website which have little or no relevancy to the website.

2. Doorway pages are another method. These Web pages are designed with the sole aim of drawing search engine visitors to your website. Doorway pages are standalone pages designed only to act as a doorway or portal to your website. Implementing doorway pages isn’t advisable, although many SEO firms use them routinely.

3. The use of ‘invisible text’ is also another trick used to fool search engines. The idea is to trick the spiders into thinking that the website is keyword rich.

4. Link farms – is the term used to describe web pages containing countless links to 100 of other websites. Link farms were created back when it was thought that the more links pointing to your website the higher it would rank in the search engine returns. Try and avoid these at all costs!!

5. Although it is a good idea to create and include relevant and informative news articles into your website, don’t be fooled into using Article Minor programs which obtain prewritten articles from other directories to be used in your website.

6. Cloaking is the term used whereby the content initially presented to the search engine spider is totally different to that seen by the user.

7. Redirect pages are another trick employed by some Black Hat SEO companies etc. An example of this is if you performed a search in Google for ‘Fishing Reels’ and then click on one of the links in the search results, you may be redirected to a porn site.

8. Popup windows that appear which contain useless advertisements that force you to click them.
